Cleaning Tips For Room Air Conditioners

pink mold

Air conditioners can keep the heat out during a hot day. However, if they aren’t cleaned regularly, they may not work well and lead to costly repairs.

Making a healthy routine out of cleaning your air conditioning units can bring plenty of benefits in the long run. Here are a few tips you might want to consider:

Check drain channels for problems

If you find something mysteriously dripping from somewhere in your air conditioner, chances are you may have a damaged drain channel.

This can occur when your unit suffers a blockage of mold or fungi. You can clean out these channels by using pipe cleaners or a bristled brush to unclog them. This should help contain any leakage.

Make sure the filter is clean

Large dust deposits can damage the filter, which is why every now and then you need to take it out by the front grille.

Then, do a bit of vacuuming to clean the surface. For more thorough cleaning, you might want to wash the filter with warm water before drying and returning it to the unit.

Dust your vents

It’s not just your air conditioning filter that needs to be clear of dust. Dust out your vents by using a vacuum.

Go over them twice to make sure no dust remains that will clog the vents and damage the unit.

You can also use a brush to deep clean these and pick out anything that lies beneath the surface.

Dust doesn’t just build up in your air conditioning units, but also the rest of your home. Clean House Services can assist you with cleaning anything anywhere in your home. Contact us today!
